Hunts

If any part of Alaska was created as a home for a multitude of wildlife species, it is the western Alaska Range.  The Alaska that we envision as majestic glacier capped mountains (Denali–The Great One); timber clad valleys, tranquil and silent, that lead out to the seemingly never-ending tundra covered foothills.  This is the heartland of Alaska.  Home of the largest moose on earth, vast herds of caribou, bands of Dall’s sheep, grizzly, black bear, wolf and wolverine.

This part of Alaska has been our home every fall since 1983.  We have helped to make the dreams of manybigtentcabin-parch sportsmen become reality from this camp, know only as Emerald Valley.  Again,
if experience has taught us anything about being
proper stewards of wildlife and clients alike, it has taught us that fewer clients and longer multiple species hunts make the best combination.
Access to Emerald Valley is via bush plane from McGrath, Alaska.  McGrath is located on the Kuskokwim River about 200 miles west of Anchorage in the heart of Interior Alaska.  Our camp here is intentionally kept and maintained with the aesthetics of “days gone by.” DSC02907Permanent wall tents with wood floors and sidewalls, wood heaters, comfortable beds, and a shower facility.  Food is country or family style and there is lots of it.  Several less permanent but still comfortable outlying camps are accessed via ATV’s.  These ATV’s also serve us well as meat, trophy, and supply transportation and access to hunting grounds.

Species that are present year around in this region include Dall’s Sheep, Alaska-Yukon Moose, Brown/Grizzly Bear, Barren Ground Caribou, Black Bear, Wolf and Wolverine. Wolf and Wolverine are the animals most rarely seen or harvested. We have never put financial gain in front of prudent stewardship of the wildlife resources of this region or our clients best interests. As a result, you will have the opportunity to be selective in your harvest. On the average, our fourteen day hunters harvest three animals, twenty day hunters harvest four and nearly every thirty day hunter we have ever hosted has harvested at least five of the main species found in this region making these hunts one of Americas finest quality true wilderness experience hunting opportunities. We have a saying that has been developed over the years: You will have an excellent opportunity to harvest good mature representative animals and a good opportunity to harvest exceptional animals on these hunts.

The rewards of longer multiple species style hunting are not restricted to animals. When you leave camp in the morning knowing that any of the seven available species can be seen and/or harvested at any time is truly unique. It creates an awareness of the country that is just not the same while single species hunting.

We carefully tailor these hunts to your abilities and desires which are discussed in detail prior to you booking a hunt with us to make sure that you will become one of the many clients who over the years have arrived at our camp as a client and left as a lifelong friend.

Hunting here is conducted “safari” style.  During September when all seven species of big game are in season, you may very well see all of them on several of your hunting days.  I hope you can become one of the many friends we have made from this wonderful place.
